Uttarkashi is situated on the banks of river Bhagirathi,it is a town of historical monuments,temples, ashrams and dharamhala. Temple of Lord Vishavanath is most important.It is also called Kashi of north.The world famous Nehru institute Of Mountaineering NIM is there were training of Adventure sports rock climbing. Uttarkashi is situated on the footseps of hill named Varun Parvat, on confluence of two rivers Varuna and Asi, has a ghat called Manikarnika Ghat.It has 3 subdivision Bhatwari, Dunda and Rajgarh.Uttarkashi is a sprawling town, the district capital of Uttarkashi District and the main service centre of Zone.Uttarkashi location on the banks of the Bhagirathi between the tributaries Varuna and Asi Ganga makes it a natural stopover for pilgrims and other visitors on their way further north to the source of the Ganges.
The town is however an important temple town in its own right with 32 temples mostly dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thus the town is a spiritual destination with thousands of devotees performing their daily rituals at one of the many temples.
Historic records indicate that Uttarkashi was once the main market of yatra rout, the nearby location of the two Char Dhams Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Nehru Mountaineering Institute (Estd 14th Nov 1965)
It is rated as one of the best mountaineering institutes in India and also considered a prestigious mountaineering institute in Asia. It is 5km from main city. Nehru Institute of Mountaineering is located in the Deodar covered hills surrounding the town proper and is an extremely important institution involved in training adventurers and potential workers in the tourism industry.from all over India and the world in a wide range of nature and adventure activities from serious mountaineering to rafting, water sports and hang gliding.
Dodi Tal: 3024m
It is 21km Trek from Sangamchhati. Dodital is a freshwater lake in Uttarakhand. At Agora, which is 7 km from Sangamchatti, one can stay at one of the private lodges or alternatively, camp at Bebra which is 9 km from Sangamchatti. From there one can start the second leg of the trek the next day which will take you to Dodital via the small village of Manjhi. There are a couple of forest rest houses at Dodital where one can book a stay by taking a permit at the forest office in Uttarkashi. Alternatively, one can camp by carrying tents. There's a basic canteen where one can get food and tea.
According to mythology Lord Ganesha was born in this place. The lake is situated at an elevation of 3,307mts above sea level surrounded by dense forests of deodar, oak and rhododendrons. The pristine water of this lake is the home of endangered Himalayan Golden Trouts and many other fishes. The depth of this lake is still unknown. The 18km trek to Dodi Tal commences from Agoda. A visitor encounters splendor of nature en route Dodi Tal.
Maneri is situated 13kms from Uttarkashi on the Gangotri route. A dam across Bhagirathi River is the major attraction of the village. The consequential lake adds exquisiteness to Maneri.
The Maneri Dam is located at Maneri, 8.5 km east of Uttarkashi.
A Bugyal is a high altitude alpine grass lands, or meadows. They are locally referred to as 'nature’s own gardens'.Bugyal remain snow covered in winter. In the summer, the meadows burst into a multitude of beautiful flowers and grass. A beautiful small lake is also situated at Dayara Bugyal. Trek to Daryara Bugyal starts from Barsu village. Its 8km trek.(70%)
